Season Mechanics
What happens when a season ends?
When a season ends, players receive their ranked rewards based on their highest achieved rank during that season. The ranked ladder then resets, and a new season begins with a soft reset that places players slightly below their previous season's rank for a fresh competitive start.
Do I need to maintain my rank to get rewards?
No, you only need to reach a rank once during the season to qualify for that rank's rewards. Even if you drop down in rank later, you'll still receive rewards based on your highest achieved rank during the season.
What rewards do I get at the end of the season?
Season rewards vary by game and rank, but typically include exclusive skins (like the Victorious skin for Gold+ players), ranked borders, summoner icons, ranked emotes, profile banners, and other cosmetic items. The higher your rank, the more exclusive and prestigious the rewards become.
How long does a season typically last?
Season duration varies by game. League of Legends seasons typically last 10-11 months, Teamfight Tactics aligns with LoL seasons, and Valorant seasons are shorter, usually lasting 2-3 months.
Ranked System
What is a soft reset?
A soft reset occurs at the start of a new season. Your rank is reset, but not completely. Players are typically placed slightly below their previous season's rank, requiring them to play placement matches to determine their starting rank for the new season.
Can I still play ranked after the season ends?
After a season ends, there's usually a brief period before the new season begins. During this time, ranked queues may be disabled or in a pre-season state. Once the new season starts, ranked play resumes with the soft reset applied.
How do I check my current rank?
You can check your current rank in-game through the ranked section of your profile. The rank displayed is your current rank, while your highest achieved rank during the season determines your end-of-season rewards.
What's the difference between current rank and highest rank?
Your current rank is where you are right now on the ranked ladder. Your highest rank is the highest tier you've reached at any point during the season. End-of-season rewards are based on your highest rank, not your current rank.
Rewards
Do I need to play a certain number of games to get rewards?
Requirements vary by game, but generally you need to have played a minimum number of ranked games and reached a certain rank to qualify for rewards. Check the official Riot Games announcements for specific requirements each season.
What happens to my MMR (Matchmaking Rating) when a season ends?
Your MMR is typically preserved between seasons, though it may be adjusted slightly during the soft reset. This means if you were playing at a certain skill level, you'll likely be matched with similar players in the new season, even if your visible rank has been reset.
Can I get rewards from multiple ranks?
No, you receive rewards based on your single highest achieved rank during the season. If you reached Diamond but then dropped to Platinum, you'll still receive Diamond rewards.
When are season rewards distributed?
Season rewards are typically distributed shortly after the season ends, usually within a few days to a week. Riot Games will announce the exact distribution timeline through official channels.
